Our story
It started with a suitcase full of colour.
Gallery 23 grew out of a love of travel: a palm-fringed island in the Andaman Sea, its water so clear the longtail boats seem to float on air, rain on a Paris street, a harbour at first light, a market stall piled with flowers. The kind of moments you photograph a dozen times and still cannot quite bring home.
So we started bringing them home another way. Painted by hand, on canvas, at a size that could hold a wall.
Who we are
A close-knit collective, many horizons.
Today Gallery 23 works with a close-knit group of artists and creatives in different countries, each with their own eye and their own way with a brush or a palette knife. Some paint the coastlines they grew up beside; others chase city light or the quiet of a mountain. What they share is a love of colour and the patience to paint every piece properly, by hand.
We bring their work together under one roof, so you can find a painting for your wall in one place, and have it made just for you.

Finished by hand
A painting is only half the story; the frame is how it meets the room. That is why we use floating frames and nothing else: a slim wooden surround that leaves every brushstroke visible and lets the canvas float inside it, in six finishes from black and antique gold to oak and walnut.
